One to One Coaching

Dane Chalfin is a highly experienced pop/rock/theatre vocal coach with a specialism in voice rehabilitation. a field where he is now widely regarded as a leading expert. Whilst he is independent of any organised pedagogy or method, he is ‘fluent’ in the terminology and concepts of the major vocal methodologies.  Dane's own teaching model is based on the latest evidence in anatomy, physiology and acoustics, though his teaching style is intensely practical and does not bombard clients with science.

Lessons are generally an hour long and are tailored specifically to the client's needs.  A typical lesson will include both technical exercise and repertoire coaching.  Dane prefers to use the client's repertoire as the framework for technical development wherever possible rather than using traditional scale and arpeggio-based exercises, which is often a relief to the professional pop/rock/theatre singer.

Dane teaches from Blueprint Studios, Manchester's premier recording venue.  There is on-site secure parking available.  If you arrive early there is a waiting area with refreshment machines and even a pool table.  The studio is 5 minutes walk from Victoria Station and 10 minutes walk from Piccadilly.

Whilst Dane has people traveling to Manchester specifically for lessons from all over the UK and Europe, he also teaches via Skype for clients who prefer to receive coaching from home or on tour.

Initial Consultation

Dane requires all prospective clients to have an initial one hour consultation (at the standard fee) to discuss the client's needs, both technically and in performance.  Client's will need to perform two pieces while Dane does a detailed analysis of both the technical and performance aspects of the pieces in order to determine the best way forward.

If it is agreed that the client/coach match is a good one then sessions will be arranged to fit the client's schedule.  Ideally sessions should be weekly for 6-12 weeks then dropping in frequency to suit the client's needs.  Most singers find that after a solid initial block of coaching they only require an 'MOT' session once every few months to stay in top condition.

If Dane does not feel he is suitable for the client, or vice-versa, a recommendation to a reputable colleague can be arranged.

Lesson Details

One to one sessions are available on Thursdays and Saturdays at Blueprint Studios from 11:00-17:00.  Sessions may be arranged at Blueprint or on-location on other days/times at Dane's discretion and at slightly higher fees.

All sessions are recorded to CD for the client's review and practice.

All rehearsal tracks or accompaniment must be provided by the client.

The studio is fully equipped with a PA and microphones, though clients are encouraged to bring their own mic.

Dane's clients include professional singers, up-and-coming through to well-known artists and other singing teachers/vocal coaches.  His fees are reflective of this type of clientele and are in line with current industry expert-level rates.  Please email Dane for the latest fees.
